As mentioned in , recording a remote not found in the Skip library is fully supported. To do this, start by going through the standard method of visiting the wizard and adding a device to an activity. Once you are prompted to select a Brand and Model, hit the Record button at the bottom of the page instead of typing in a Brand and Model.

Note, this button is only active and available when a Skip remote is connected to your computer and ready to sync, as recording a remote requires the Skip sensor to work.

Name Your Device

Now that you've started the record process, you will walk through four tabs. My Device, Design, Record and Save.

To begin, tell us the Brand and Model of your device. Additionally, feel free to select a new color to represent this device. Then select Design to move on to the next step.

Design Your Device

To make the process of recording a remote as straightforward as possible, we've created a design process where you can drag and drop buttons from the left to the right. For example:

We suggest making as accurate a representation of your remote as possible, to avoid missing any buttons. For example, here is a sample Apple TV remote.

And here is a recreated design of the remote in the Skip App.

Most of these buttons are self-explanatory. However, it should be noted that the Skip App only includes the most common remote control buttons and does not include a standard Apple TV button found on modern Apple TV remotes. This is no problem. If you have an uncommon button you'd like to add, drag the Custom button into your design, then rename it by clicking the pen icon. For example:

You can include as many custom buttons as you like.

Once you've finished designing your remote, click the Record button.

Recording your Remote

We are now at the recording phase! To record your remote point the old remote at the Skip, like so:

Then press and hold the button on your old remote as prompted by the Skip App. Once the button has been recorded, you can release the button.

Note that only IR remote controls can be recorded by the Skip.

Do this for every button. Then, when all buttons are recorded, hit Save. Now you can proceed to finish adding your device as described in .
